A World Mental Health Day Post!

October 9, 2020

Most conversations that I have about mental health are focussed on the negatives – poor mental health, diagnoses, medication, doctors and so forth – but today I want to look at the positives.

Poor mental health outcomes for trans+ people are largely around deficits – not enough acceptance (especially from family) and limited access to medical aspects of transition, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Trans+ people with accepting friends, family, partners and workplaces and enough access to medical support where necessary (for transition needs, not mental ill health) can have just as good mental health as everyone else.

That’s

Congratulations Josie, Chrysalis volunteer of the month.

Josie has been a constant volunteer throughout lockdown. Nothing was too much trouble when asked, especially when she was asked to help support and promote the Tour de Trans. Little did we know how she was going to throw herself into this project and sporting her rainbow trousers she followed the ride all around the country. Well, the main theme of the week seems to have been “I didn’t really do much this week” before discussing a whole list of what we’ve each done. The long days and fine weather really made last week as good as it could be. Lots of light flooding into the home office and the privilege of having to move the cat off my office chair so that I could get to work.

What a busy week it was too. The mornings full of supervision and thoughts about exit strategies, the afternoons full of learning about Microsoft Office 365 at #ShiftHappens.

Another great drop in this week, lots of chatting about all sorts of things from hair removal to voice coaching and many other things, some trans-related others not. Next week the theme will be show and tell – an opportunity to show off what we’ve made, done, or treated ourselves to, or our favourite mug or pet.
